People had been speculating about Samsung’s plan on refreshing its Gear S smartwatch line scheduled for the upcoming IFA 2016. To a certain extent, Samsung has just confirmed the reports as the Korean company is now sending out invitations to its event at the Berlin-based consumer electronics trade show this year.
IFA 2016 is officially set to happen on September 4th but bigger manufacturers like Samsung, have set their event to take place on September 1st at 11am local time in Berlin. It is at the same trade show wherein Samsung unveiled the Gear S2 last year. With the release of the Galaxy Note 7, consumers were anticipating an updated wearable to match the latest handset.
As you can see on the publication image above, it shows a clock hand which obviously give out the hint about the watch. It is fair to say that Samsung isn’t really trying to keep anything a secret.
Recent reports suggests that the upcoming Gear S3 would feature the same circular form factor like last year’s model. There are also rumors that this year’s wearable device will come in three variants namely Classic, Explorer and Frontier. The Explorer and Frontier variants were expected include an altimeter, barometer and speedometer to be more suitable to those with an active lifestyle.
The Gear S2 is considered to be Samsung’s best smartwatch to date. It works very well even with non-Samsung phones given its Tizen-based operating system. It fits properly on the wrist and looks good with its great display and ergonomic design. But there are still issues in its software that needs to be fixed.
It’s only a few weeks left before we can finally see the feature enhancements of the upcoming Gear S3 competing against its biggest rival, the Apple Watch 2. Rumors has it that Apple’s wearable will have its unveiling on September 7, the same date as the upcoming iPhone 7 is expected to be announced.
