The Mi VR Play is the company’s fresh addition to its efforts to provide technology products that are priced economically. From the way it looks in the picture, the outer part of Mi VR Play seems to be made out of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) which could make it lighter in weight. It also comes with a zip that can easily be accessed to slip in your smartphone. The device can fit a wide variety of smartphones having a screen size of 4.7 to 5.7-inch. The headset also features several designs such as Denim, Floral, Leopard, Lotus, Night Sky and Camo style to match your color preference.

“Mi VR Play has significantly improved upon the design typically used in similar VR products — it is wrapped in lightweight, durable Lycra for long-lasting comfort. In the future, Mi VR Play will also be available in a selection of bold prints and colours for even more stylish options. The unique two-way zipper helps to ensure compatibility, providing a secure grip on a wide range of 4.7- to 5.7-inch smartphones. At the same time, the dual openings on the front allow for slight positioning adjustments and ventilation.” – Hugo Barra, Vice President of International, Xiaomi

Virtual reality became very popular nowadays bringing a whole new experience on how we engage ourselves into panoramic 3D environments on either games or movies. Xiaomi might be a little late on joining the competition as many companies are already making their way into VR technology including Microsoft, Google, Samsung and even Facebook. But the technology is still fresh and there’s still plenty of room for improvements.

The Mi VR Play is currently available to a limited number of users who are selected during the beta test sign up on August 1. The pricing and availability of the VR headset is yet to be announced.
