Remix OS for PC is now based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and introduces support to a wider range of hardware. This update is the result of the feedback from developers, user community and beta testers. The key feature of the update is the support for multiple window which has been greatly improved in the migration to Marshmallow.
For those who haven’t had the grasp, Remix OS is an Android operating system based on ARM architecture and was originally developed and preinstalled for Remix Ultratablet and Remix Mini. On January 2016, Jide announced the third category of its operating system called Remix OS for PC. During the same month, the company publicly released the first beta version of the its operating system which is based on Android-x86. The beta version of Remix OS for PC brings the Android operating system to any compatible Intel-based PC which gives it the ability to run Android applications. The beta version just recently received its first major update during the month of March 2016 that enables the support for hard disk installation as a result of successful deployment and positive feedback from its user community. I have personally been able to test the operating system from its original beta release – which during those time can only be run on an external drive such as the USB flash drive – and followed through each and every update.
Today, Jide releases a major update to its Remix OS for PC, enhancing the user experience on its intuitive PC features. Having migrated to Marshmallow, this update includes significant feature enhancement for multiple windows, increased GPU support and bug fixes. Users can now effectively resize the window with the use of a dedicated button which automatically fits the app’s content to ensure optimal layout. In addition, users can now also manually resize the window from any edge which was limited to the bottom right corner during the early versions.
From Jide update release notes:
Remix OS for PC Update: 3.0.101
This update to Remix OS for PC version number 3.0.101, one that is based on Android 6.0. The migration to Marshmallow marks the next step in evolution for Remix OS for PC, with many added features reflecting the feedback delivered by the user community.
A key feature of Remix OS for PC is multiple window support, and this has been vastly improved in the migration to Marshmallow. Significant examples include:
- New button has been implemented that resizes a window to fit specifically to the app’s content – ensuring optimal layout is maintained
- Video-based apps now open up in full-screen when you maximize the video rather than staying in a small framed window
- Resizing windows manually can now be initiated anywhere along the edge of the window (other than the top edge), rather than just on the bottom right corner
Remix OS for PC can now be downloaded from Jide’s website for free.
